Yamaha Vocaloid was hailed as one of the most significant innovations in electronic music. However, the majority of its users are dissatisfied with the results and don't consider vocal tracks produced by it to be naturally sounding. This comes as no surprise because synthesizing a convincingly sounding vocal without introducing performance nuances into the electronic score is virtually impossible. Vocaloid allows adding "expressiveness elements", however this procedure is very laborious and complicated in real-time due to necessity to perform large calculations and the fact that not every user is aware of which elements should be added and where they should be added.

We are now developing YV Enhancer, meant for automatic adding, generation and adjustment of "expressiveness elements" in the files used for rendering Vocal tracks in Yamaha Vocaloid. This program is being created on the basis of SE40 and improved Performance Modeling technology, previously used in SE3.0, SEM2.0 (MFX Plug-in for Sonar) and Stylizer 1.0.

We address Vocaloid users, both actual and prospective; to take into account their demands and requests while developing YV Enhancer. The first version is set for release in July, 2004.
